One of the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District’s more popular programs is returning.

Called Caught Green Handed, the program rewards people that properly use the district’s numerous recycling bins.

“It’s back,” said Dan Palmer, LSSWD’s executive director, adding it was ended several years ago. “This program is designed to recognize a person for recycling, or someone who is doing an outstanding job to keep our county clean of litter.”

Palmer said they pick the person and then surprise them with gifts.

“So many times, people thought they were going to get a ticket from us,” he said.

“So, they were very relieved to find out it was a reward for their good behavior.”

The reward is a goodie bag with a T-shirt with the logo “I got caught green handed,” a litter bag, pens, mouse pad, water bottle, coaster for beverage, band aids, hand sanitizer, flower seeds, jar opener and scratch pads, a magnetic clip and a recycle info slider card. Also, a gift card will be inserted.

“Our first gift card is donated by Lawrence County Commissioner DeAnna Holliday and it is a $20 card to Texas Roadhouse,” Palmer said. “So, it’s a nice gift for being green handed.”
