Dragons rally by Panthers; Gallia tops Hornets

CHESAPEAKE — Garrett Looney got the call and he didn’t disappoint.
Looney pitched a five-hitter as the Fairland Dragons rallied in the final two innings and beat the Chesapeake Panthers 8-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Looney struck out eight, walked just one and only one run was earned.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first before Fairland tied the game in the second.
The Panthers then got a run in the third and led until the top of the sixth when the Dragons scored four runs to lead 5-2.
The Dragons added three insurance runs in the seventh.
Fairland is now 11-3 overall and 8-0 in the OVC.
Kyle Rankin led the Fairland offense by going 3-3 with two doubles and a run batted in. Alex Rogers also went 3-3 with an RBI and Bryan Defoe was 2-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Looney helped his own cause by going 1-4 with a double and a pair of RBI.
Austin Browning, Trent Dearth, Jonah Ridenour, Devin Stevens and A.J. Litteral all had hits for Chesapeake.
Litteral started for the Panthers and held the Dragons in check until the sixth. He worked 5.2 innings allowing seven hits, five runs — all earned’ with five strikeouts and two walks.

COAL GROVE — The Gallipolis Blue Devils used the three-hit pitching of Colton Roe to blank the Coal Grove Hornets 12-0 in a five-inning Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Roe struck out one and walked one in getting the win.
Garrett McGuire was 2-3 with a home run and Justin McClelland was also 2-3 as the Blue Devils had seven hits.
Coal Grove (4-8, 2-6) had three hits with Ben Compliment, and Kyle Sites getting singles and Trey Hunt a double.
