Walks, errors prove costly in Ironton loss to Minford

MINFORD — It was a case of doing more with less.
The Ironton Fighting Tigers outhit the Minford Falcons 9-to-5 on Saturday but ended up on the short side of a 10-2 score.
Ironton had four errors to go with seven walks that helped Minford get the win.
Duncan pitched well in 3.1 innings of relief. He struck out six, walked two, gave up three hits and six runs but only two were earned. He also went 2-4 at the plate with a double and a run batted in.
“Ethan did a nice job. It seems like we have that one inning defensively that kills us,” said Ironton coach Travis Wylie.
Ironton (6-10) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Cameron Deere singled, moved up on a ground out and scored on Ethan Duncan’s base hit.
Minford came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Brayden Davis, Darius Jordan and Elijah Vogelsong all walked and Ethan Lauder hit a two-run single. Ethan Duncan then came on in relief and retired the side.
The Falcons got four runs in the third inning to lead 6-1.
Jordan singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Lauder. Luke Lindamood reached on an error and Reid Shultz doubled home two runs. Matthew Risner reached on a fielder’s choice, and Nathan McCormick and Davis walked to force in a run.
Minford used two errors, a steal of home and a sacrifice fly by Shultz to get two runs in the fourth.
The lead went to 10-1 in the fifth when Chase Workman walked, Davis had an RBI double and then scored on a throwing error.
Ironton got a run in the seventh on singles by Blake Stuntebeck, Ashton Duncan and Kyle Howell.
Howell also went 2-4 with an rbi as seven different batters got hits.
