Carver fires perfect game as Bobcats blank Vikings
FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats were concerned about their 10-day layoff.
Tayte Carver erased any worries.
Carver pitched a five-inning perfect game as the Bobcats blanked the Symmes Valley Vikings 10-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Carver struck out 11 or the 15 outs in his masterpiece. He threw only 48 pitches and 40 were strikes.
“Carver threw the ball well. He definitely had his A-game going,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“When you throw the ball for strikes the way he did, it’s quite an accomplishment.”
Green (18-2, 10-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.
Eli Webb singled, stole second and scored on Tanner Kimbler’s base hit. Carver singled and Bryce Ponn walked to load the bases.
After a force out at home, Mason Barber singled home two more runs and it was 3-0.
Trevor Darnell and Caden Brammer each singled in a run and Webb’s second trip to the plate in the inning resulted in an RBI single.
Levi Niece hit a ball in the hole between the first base and second baseman and Green second baseman Levi Singleton made a diving stop and threw the runner out at first from his knees.
Green added a run scored in the second when Singleton walked, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Barber’s hit.
The lead went to 9-0 in the fourth.
Carver singled, Ponn walked and Singleton had an RBI single. Ponn came home when Darnell grounded out.
The Bobcats created the run rule win in the fifth.
Mason Hensley walked and pinch-runner Joe Webb moved up on Eli Webb’s base hit. The ball was misplayed in the outfield to put runners and second and third.
Kimbler was walked intentionally and Carver ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center.
Barber went 2-3 with three runs batted in and Eli Webb 3-4 to lead the offense.
Green visits Portsmouth West on Tuesday, hosts St. Joseph on Wednesday and then entertains Portsmouth Clay on Thursday in a showdown for first place in the league.
