Down to River brings rock, soul to square: Tuesday Night Summer concert begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Ironton Tuesday Night Summer concert series continues tonight with Down to the River.

“They are making their second appearance at The Tuesday Night Concert Series,” said Sam Heighton, executive director of Ironton aLive “They were a hit last year and will bring a crowd.”

Down to the River is from Pikeville, Kentucky. Heighton said the group was formed to take songs Tony Mullins has written over the years, and enlisting help from friends all over the area, to combine live music and recordings into an ambitious music endeavor. Down to the River plays rock and roll, soul and freeform jams.

This free event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmers Market Square on Second Street in Ironton.

“This is a family event, so come early and have dinner at one of our fine restaurants. You’ll need a lawn chair and bring the kids,” Heighton said.

The Ironton Tuesday Night Summer concert series is produced by Ironton aLive and Studimo Productions. This year’s sponsors are Glockner of Ironton, Phillips Funeral Home, Gold Street Muffler, Central Hardware, Citizens Deposit Bank, Holiday Inn of Ironton, Perry Distributing, J&J General Maintenance, Armory Smoke House, Portable Solutions Inc. and Scherer Mountain Insurance.

Heighton said that this year’s Taste of Ironton would take place on June 29, the same day as The Ohio River Revival music festival.

“The Taste of Ironton will be at the Farmers Market Square from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. for the seventh year,” he said. “Come and sample the taste of our local restaurants. You can buy tickets in advance from Unger’s, Dicks Music or The Vault.”

The Ohio River Revival will be at the Center Street Ohio River Dock in Ironton. The event is free and family friendly.

“This event is designed to bring the community together in an effort to revitalize our river front and ultimately the entire town,” Heighton said. “There will be many types of entertainment on hand including bands, food and craft vendors and much more.”

The line up consists of 10 bands including String Therapy, Town Mountain, Restless Leg String band, Shelf Life String Band, Sour Mash String Band, Charlie Woods and Deep Hollow, Knockin’ Spirits, Moonshine Crossing and The Candy Ass Mountain Boys.
