Mintie Shope

April 19, 1939—June 8, 2019

Mintie Lorraine Shope, 80, of Pedro, went to be with Lord from St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia on June 8, 2019.

She was born April 19, 1939, to Andrew and Mildred DePriest, of Pedro. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Shope of Pedro.

Mintie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ella Damron; six brothers, Andrew DePriest, Willard DePriest, Ron DePriest, Phillip (Eddie) DePriest, Kenneth DePriest, and a great grandson, Seth Cogan.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Shope; sister, Juanita Mason, of Prospect; brother-in-law, Mack (Margie) Shope, of Pedro; sister-in-law, Barbara Robinson, of Pedro; two daughters, Penny (Robert) Stapleton, of Pedro, and Nora Van Meter, of Pedro; son, William Shope, Jr. of Pedro; eight grandchildren, Jason Beair of Pedro, Andrea (Ryan) Holbrook of Portsmouth, Michael (Natalie) Shope of Pedro, Stephanie, Lori, Michelle, Amanda and Misty Shope; 17 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mintie was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren very much. She enjoyed hearing Mike Shope sing in church and was proud of the man K.C. had grown up to be.

One of her favorite past times was going out to eat and shop with Iliana, Eden and River.

She also enjoyed cooking for her family. Caleb would say she made the best pancakes ever.

Mintie tried to make everyone feel welcomed into her home. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Mack Shope officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends was Tuesday at the funeral home.

Betty Wright

Dec. 28, 1931—June 8, 2019

Bessie “Betty” Keeney Wright, 87, of South Point, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019, at her residence.

Mrs. Wright was born in Ironton on Dec. 28, 1931, a daughter to the late Vernon and Bessie Thomas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norbert Keeney; and second husband, Ted Wright.

She attended South Point High School and was a cashier for various stores, and retired from All-Season Storage in Boyd County, Kentucky. She was a member of Brookdale Freewill Baptist Church in South Point.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Thomas; and a grandson, Jamie Lake.

She is survived by four children, Judy (Richard) Lake, of South Point, Vernon “Butch” (Debbie) Keeney, of Coal Grove, Kathy Lowe, of Kitts Hill, and Terry L. Keeney, of South Point; a brother, David Thomas; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastor David Heavner and Brother John Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Butch Keeney, Terry Keeney, Tucker Meadows, Blake Smith, Justin Smith and Eric Lake. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lacey Lucas

Lacey Marshall Lucas, 82, of Ironton, died June 11, 2019 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington, West Virginia.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Ken Martin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Luthella Clinton

Luthella Clinton, 83, of Ironton, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at her residence.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery, with Father David Huffman officiating. There will be visitation from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St. Ironton, and Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lisa Fitzwalter

Lisa Fitzwater, 43 of Huntington, West Virginia, died Sunday June 9, 2019. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Rocky Dwight Banks, 62, of Ironton, passed on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at his residence in Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Banks.
