Harvest for the Hungry’s third annual dinner and silent auction fundraiser will take place today at 5:30 p.m. at First Nazarene Church, located at the corner of Fourth and Pleasant streets in Ironton.

Tickets are $10 and $12 at the door.

Organizer Lois Terkhorn said items up for auction include an autographed photo and CD from Reba McEntire, an autographed vinyl LP from the Oak Ridge Boys, autographed photos of Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns players, Cincinnati Reds tickets, as well as a gift certificate for cooking school and Marshall University items.

Musician Sasha Colette will provide entertainment during the event.

Last year, Harvest served nearly 16,000 people, including more senior citizens than last year, children, and other adults.  Its clients are provided a three-day pre-packed food service every 30 days.

“The need is great in Lawrence County,” Terkhorn, a volunteer at the pantry, said. “We have the distinction of ranking as the county that is the second highest in need of food assistance in Ohio.  It is a huge challenge to have enough money to operate our pantry.”

This mission started in the basement of First United Methodist Church in 1992, and then moved to its current location, at 120 N. Fifth St in Ironton, in 2012.
