WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings like pushing guys around.
With the offensive line dominating up front, the Vikings routed the Fairfield Christian Knights 37-0 on Friday.
Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb praised the offensive line of tackles Johnny Rucker, Preston Counts and Kayson Adkins, guard Eli Patterson and Gavan Yates, center Tanner McComas, and ends Caleb Mullins, Christian Gilbert and Luke Leith
“I thought our offensive line played much better,” said Webb. “Overall, we played a much more complete game. We played for four quarters and I thought our kids really improved.”
The Vikings rushed for 448 yards on 52 carries led by Josh Ferguson with 241 yards on 16 carries while Ethan Patterson had 99 yards on 12 carries.
“Our backs did better blocking for each other and carrying out their fakes,” said Webb.
Symmes Valley (2-0) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 5-yard run by Ferguson.
Gavan Yates kicked the first of four extra points.
Ferguson added a 10-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter and the lead was 14-0.
With the ball backed up inside the 1-yard line, the Vikings went on an impressive nine-play drive capped by Patterson 7-yard run to lead 21-0.
With just six seconds on the clock, Yates connected on a 32-yard field goal that extended the lead to 24-0 at the half.
Symmes Valley capped the scoring with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter as Luke Leith ran 9 yards for a score and Patterson had a 1-yard plunge.
