Hazel Stewart

Dec. 15, 1928-Sept. 27, 2019

Hazel Garnet Stewart, 90, of Kitts Hill, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at a local nursing home facility.

Mrs. Stewart was born Dec. 15, 1928 in Logan, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Jess and Ora (Mullins) Fleming.

She attended Logan County Schools and was of the Baptist faith. Hazel was the ultimate homemaker, she lived her life to take care of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert H. Stewart, who passed away in 1977; along with a son, Hubert B. Stewart; a brother, Dennis Fleming; and a sister, Mabel Ullom Jude.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Don) Malone, of Kitts Hill; four sons, Michael (Dottie) Stewart, of Proctorville, Leonard (Londa) Stewart, of Ironton, Jimmy Stewart, of Conroe, Texas, and Bruce Stewart, of Kenova, West Virginia; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three brothers, Orville (Lana) Fleming, Donald (Pat) Fleming and Odell (Barbara) Fleming; four sisters, Carolyn Susie Fleming, Vickie Jones, Connie (Larry) Collier and Mrytle “Pug” (Bob) Seidl; and special friends, Don and Missy Banks.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sugar Creek Cemetery, 94 County Rd. 44 S., Ironton, with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating.

The Stewart family would like to thank Harbor Health Care and Community Hospice of Ashland for their loving care and support.

Carolyn Akers

Aug. 15, 1936 – Sept. 25, 2019

Carolyn Sue Akers, 83, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at a local nursing home facility.

Mrs. Akers was born Aug. 15, 1936 in Waterloo, a daughter to the late Andrew J. and Wyona (Hopkins) Akers.

Ms. Akers attended Decatur schools. She was a former cook in several different local restaurants and attended the Family Life Worship Center in Ironton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie Harr, June Miller, Ruth Nelson, Octava Owens and Arbutus Kazee; seven brothers, Arnold, Earl, Gaylord Cecil, Forrest, Truman, Ossie and Otis Akers.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Cox, of Ironton; and many nieces and nephews; great -nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; and great-great-great nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastor Todd Munson officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will take place Monday in Kirby Flats Cemetery.

If you would like to be a part of the funeral procession to the cemetery, please gather at Phillips Funeral Home, Monday at 9:45 a.m. and the procession will leave at 10 a.m.

Lyal Watts

Lyal Anthony Mooch Watts, 44 of Proctorville, died Wednesday Sept. 25, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Marie Bragg Watts.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.
