SCIOTOVILLE — The Symmes Valley Vikings have been forced to learn on the job.
They’re learning pretty well and in turn they are getting the job done.
The Vikings jumped out to a 47-0 halftime lead and beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 47-6 on Friday in a non-league game.
“The kids had a good week of practice. The kids were very focused. We’re still a very young team but we can see them starting to grow up,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb.
“They are understanding how to prepare for games and our coaching staff has done a great job getting them ready. Our kids are doing a great job handling our adjustments.”
Symmes Valley (4-1) took a 7-0 lead early when Jack Leith hit Caleb Mullins on a 19-yard touchdown.
The lead went to 13-0 when Jack Leith picked off a pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.
Forcing a punt the Vikings were pinned back at the 5-yard line. But aided by Ethan Patterson’s 44-yard run, Symmes Valley drove 95 yards to score as Jack Leith his Mullins with a 22-yard scoring pass.
The Vikings recovered a fumble and then the Leith brothers took over as Jack threw 27 yards to Luke and it was 26-0.
After holding on downs, the Vikings scored on a 26-yard run by Josh Ferguson and it was 33-0.
Luke Leith took over at quarterback and had a 1-yard scoring run to make it 40-0.
The final Vikings’ touchdown came when Yates stripped the ball on the kickoff and returned it 30 yards for the score. He added the conversion and it 47-0.
Sciotoville East (1-3) avoided a shutout when Chase Coyle ran 4 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings rushed for 204 yards with Patterson carrying seven times for 66 yards to lead a balanced attack.
Luke Leith had five attempts for 58 yards and Ferguson ran three times for 40 yards.
Jack Leith was 3-of-3 passing for 68 yards and three touchdowns. Mullins caught two passes for 41 yards and two scores while Luke Leith had the other catch for 27 yards and a TD.
