When the two best teams in Lawrence County go head-to-head, you’d expect a tough game.
The Rock Hill Redwomen and St. Joseph Lady Flyers didn’t disappoint as they met in a soccer game on Wednesday with the Redwomen getting a 3-1 win.
“Both teams fought hard the entire game. Rock Hill has a really nice team,” said Lady Flyers’ coach Dan Blair.
The game marked the final regular season home appearance for seniors Faith Mahlmeister and Kaitlyn Sheridan who were honored in senior night ceremonies
“We have two seniors whom we love as our own kids,” said Blair. “Those two girls give 110 percent every single game. They are true leaders on and off the field and they will be greatly missed next year.”
Rock Hill (12-1-1) scored first when Makayla Scott got a goal at the 7-minute mark with an assist from Emmi Stevens.
The scored remained the same until Scott got her second goal at the 50-minute mark in the second half with the combined assist of Lucy Simpson and Aleigha Matney.
Simpson then scored with an assist from Bri Reynolds with 65:00 on the clock.
St. Joseph got its goal when Emma Whaley scored at the 77-minute mark with an assist from Bella Whaley.
“We’re proud of all our girls. They work hard and never give up,” said Blair. “We had more shots on goal but we couldn’t get it in the net.”
Rock Hill goalie Grace Stevens had 13 saves while the Lady Flyers Gracie Damron turned away seven shots on goal.
St. Joseph outshot Rock Hill 20-18 and each team had three corner kicks.
On Monday, the Redwomen visit Piketon while the Lady Flyers travel to Minford for a 7 p.m. SOC game.
