Lady Fighting Tigers down Lady Panthers, 44-34

CHESAPEAKE — As they like to say, let’s ugly it up and see what happens.
In a game that had 49 fouls called and the teams combined to shoot 54 free throws, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers got a 44-34 win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
The difference was Ironton connected on 22-of-41 at the line while Chesapeake was 5-of-13 as the game lacked any flow or allowed teams to get into any rhythm.
The Lady Fighting Tigers (4-0, 3-0) had eight different players score as Samantha LaFon led with 12 points including 8-of-14 at the line. Lexie Arden scored 9.
Maddie Ward had 14 points and Blake Anderson 10 for Chesapeake (2-1, 2-1).
LaFon was 5-of-6 at the line and Ellie Williams hit a pair of baskets as Ironton took a 13-3 first quarter lead.
Ironton was just 3-of-9 from the foul line in the second quarter as Chesapeake cut the deficit to 22-16.
Ward scored 7 points including 5-of-7 at the line while Taylor Hicks hit a 3-pointer and Anderson was 2-of-6 at the line.
Arden knocked down three baskets in the third quarter and Ironton was 5-of-9 at the foul line as the lead went to 35-27.
Anderson and Sammie McComas combined for 7 points.
Poor foul shooting plagued the Lady Fighting Tigers in the fourth quarter as they converted just 6-of-14.
Chesapeake only managed 8 points in the quarter — Ward scored 4 — and the Lady Panthers were 4-of-7 at the line.
On Thursday, Ironton host South Point and Chesapeake entertains Coal Grove.
