Lady Tigers hold on to beat SP

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers found themselves in a position they haven’t seen this season.
Trailing at halftime for the first time, the Lady Tigers pulled together and came out strong in the second half to edge the South Point Lady Pointers 41-40 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Ironton (5-0, 4-0) trailed 23-17 at the break but came roaring back to take a 33-32 lead.
Lexie Arden scored 12 points to lead seven different players in the scoring column for Ironton. Samantha LaFon added 8 points and Lydia Hannan scored 7.
Emilee Whitt and Sarah Roach scored 10 points each to pace South Point (2-3, 2-2).
The Lady Fighting Tigers were up 12-10 after the first quarter as LaFon got 6 points and Hannan 4. Roach had 4 points while Whitt and Diamond Crawley each hit 3-pointers.
Whitt had 4 more points and Sydney Markel made a trey as the Lady Pointers took the halftime lead.
But in the third quarter, Arden got Ironton going with 6 points and Evan Williams scored 4 more to give the Lady Fighting Tigers a 33-32 lead.
Each team scored 8 points in the fourth quarter. Arden scored 4 points including two foul shots and Hannan hit a trifecta for Ironton while Emilee Carey had a 3-pointer for South Point.
On Monday, South Point entertains Rock Hill and Ironton goes to Coal Grove in a battle for first place in the OVC.
