WILLOW WOOD — It might not have been the start the Symmes Valley Vikings wanted, but it certainly was the finish they expected.
The Vikings weren’t real sharp defensively in the first quarter, but that all changed in the second quarter as they romped past the Sciotoville East Tartans 60-30 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Friday.
Jack Leith scored a game-high 21 points for the Vikings (3-2, 2-1) as 10 different players scored.
Austin Smith scored 11 points for East (0-6, 0-4).
The Vikings took a 21-11 first quarter lead as Leith scored 7 points and both Caden Brammer and Logan Walsh hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points. Drew Scherer added a 4-point play when he was fouled hitting a 3-pointer.
Smith scored 7 points and Hagen Metzler 4 to account for all of East’s scoring in the quarter.
Symmes Valley (3-2, 2-1) blew the game open by outscoring East 18-4 in the second quarter to take a 39-15 halftime lead.
Leith racked up 12 points in the quarter and Scherer hit another trifecta to lead the Vikings.
Five different players scored in the third quarter and the defense held East to just two foul shots as the lead grew to 50-17.
In the fourth quarter, Tobey Smathers came off the bench to score 4 points and Brady Shepherd added 3 points for the Vikings.
Bryson Ramirez hit a pair of 3-pointers and Andrew Pyles scored 4 points for East.
The Vikings play at South Webster Saturday and host South Gallia next Saturday.
