SOUTH POINT — If Chance Gunther was the spark, he certainly lit the fuse for the South Point Pointers.
Gunther scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half to ignite the Pointers’ offense as they downed the South Webster Jeeps 69-53 on Friday.
‘We played a little better defensively against their top two scorers,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “We jumped on them early. Gunther had a nice first half that got us going. That was a big plus.”
Austin Webb had another big game for the Pointers with a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Jeeps (2-7) were led by Brayden Bockway with 14 points and Andrew Smith scored 11.
Gunthers hit a 3-pointer and scored 10 points in the first quarter as the Pointers raced to a 20-13 lead.
Bockway had a 3-poitner and scored 7 points to keep the Jeeps close.
Gunther and Webb combined for 9 points in the second quarter and the lead was 33-25 at the half.
Webb drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the third quarter while Gunther added 4 points and Nakyen Turner hit a trey and the Pointers extended their lead to 51-36.
Webb hit another trifecta and scored 5 points while Darryl Taylor and Gunther had 4 points each as the Pointers built their biggest lead at 66-44 in the fourth quarter and coasted to the win.
South Point visits Ironton next Friday.
