COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets listened and learned.
The Lady Hornets took the advice of head coach Rick Roach and put together a team effort to beat the Jackson Ironladies 68-37 on Monday.
“I have been preaching to the girls about how everyone on the court needs to contribute,” said Roach.
“A few of my girls have not been believing that, but tonight I think they understood what they had to offer. When we rely on one or two kids, we are too predictable.”
Coal Grove (8-4) led 16-9 after the first quarter as Addi Dillow scored 6 points and Caitlin Dillon and Abbey Hicks both hit 3-pointers.
Katelyn Webb had 7 points for Jackson.
Dillow had 7 points in the second quarter and the Lady Hornets were up 28-20 at the half.
But in the third quarter, Dillow hit a 3-pointer and scored 11 points and Kaleigh Murphy scored 6 more as the Lady Hornets opened up a 49-27 lead.
“Dillow was able to get us going early. Then we slowed down. At halftime, I challenged the girls to pick up the intensity. They responded. I had girls running the court and getting to the rim for some good looks,” said Roach.
Jaidyn Griffith scored 8 points and Hicks got 4 points as Coal Grove continued to pull away in the fourth quarter.
Dillow poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Murphy scored 12 points while Hicks and Griffith added 10 each.
Webb had 18 points to lead Jackson (1-8).
Coal Grove plays at Alexander (6-3) on Saturday.
