PROCTORVILLE — Clayton Thomas might be part mechanic. He gave the Fairland Dragons a jump start.
Thomas hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to get the Dragons running as they beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 46-31 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Thomas finished the game 5-of-9 from the 3-point line and scored 20 points as the Dragons remained tied for first place in the OVC.
Aiden Porter added 11 points and 4 rebounds for Fairland (9-1, 4-0). Jacob Polcyn had 7 rebounds.
Logan Blouir scored 14 points for Gallipolis (3-6, 1-3).
Thomas’ early shooting spurt gave Fairland a 16-9 first quarter lead.
Neither team got much offense going in the second quarter as each scored 4 points and the Dragons led 20-13 at the half.
Thomas came out firing again in the third quarter with another trey as he scored 8 points and Porter hit a pair of triples and the Dragons’ defense held Gallipolis to 4 points again and the lead was 36-17.
Blouir was 4-of-5 at the line for all of the Blue Devils’ scoring.
Blouir had 9 points for Gallipolis in the fourth quarter including a 3-pointer, but it wasn’t enough as he Dragons held on for the easy win.
Fairland will host Chesapeake on Tuesday in a showdown for first place in the OVC. Gallipolis is at home against Portsmouth.
