Taking it to the next level

Getting into a national championship takes a lot of athleticism and the Fairland High School cheerleaders will get to display that when they compete in the 2020 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida next month.

This is the first time in over two decades that the team has been able to compete on the national level. The last time was in 1997.

The team’s coach Shawna Leep, who is also a teacher at Fairland West Elementary School, said the team is very excited to go and compete in the Game Day Division to show what the routines they do during a ball game. If they win and get into the finals portion of the competition, they will get to be on ESPN and the whole nation can see what great athletes we have in southern Ohio.

The team will also take time to see sights in Florida including a visit to Walt Disney World.

We wish the best for the team of the senior, five juniors, four sophomores and three freshmen that make up the squad and hope they make themselves, the school and the area proud.
