The defense was back at work.
One consistent for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers this season has been their defense and it was playing well again on Thursday in a 42-25 win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
In three games this week, Ironton has held opponents under 50 points in each contest.
On the offensive end, seven of the 12 who played reached the scoring column led by Lexie Arden with 14 points. Samantha LaFon had 10 points and Lydia Hanna added 6.
Alex Barnes had 10 points and Maddy Petro scored 9 for Gallipolis (3-11, 1-7).
Arden scored 5 points in the first quarter as Ironton took a 9-7 lead. Barnes had 4 for Gallipolis.
Hannan got 4 points in the second quarter and Petro had all 4 of the Gallipolis points and Ironton went ahead 19-11 at the break.
Playing back-to-back nights and three games in four days, Ironton’s offense finally found some rhythm in the third quarter as Arden drained a trifecta and scored 5 points, LaFon had 3 points and both Riley Schreck and Elli Williams hit 3-pointers and the lead ballooned to 36-14.
Ironton coach Doug Graham emptied the bench in the fourth quarter as Gallipolis outscored the Lady Tigers 11-6 with Barnes scoring 6 points.
On Monday, Ironton host Rock Hill and Gallipolis visits Coal Grove.
