SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers’ defense showed the Greenup County Lady Musketeers why the song said, “One Is The Loneliest Number.”
The Lady Pointers held Greenup to just one point in the third quarter as they broken open a close game and rolled to a 54-30 win on Wednesday.
Emilee Carey scored 6 points in the first quarter as South Point took a 10-7 lead.
Sarah Roach and Carey scored 4 points each and Emilee Whitt drained a 3-pointer as South Point was able to extend its lead to 23-15 at the half.
Four different players scored 2 points for Greenup.
While the defense limited the Lady Musketeers to only a free throw by Lexie Carroll in the third quarter, South Point scored 18 points to open up a 41-16 cushion.
Crawley knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, Whitt hit another trifecta and Carey had 4 more points in the quarter.
The Lady Pointers were led by Carey with a game-high 18 points. Crawley was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and had a season-high 13 points while Whitt had 9 points.
Maddy Khounlavong had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, Carey 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, Whitt 5 assists and 3 steals and Roach 5 rebounds.
The Lady Pointers (9-6) hit 22-of-50 shots from the field for 44 percent and made 5-of-11 from behind the arc as they won their sixth straight game.
Carroll scored 10 points and Emily Howard added 8 points for Greenup County (4-13).
On Thursday, South Point goes to Gallipolis.
