Lady Bobcats use fast start to trigger win over Tigers

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Now that’s how you start a game.
The Green Lady Bobcats went on a 12-0 run to start the game and went on to beat the New Boston Lady Tigers 48-35 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
Both teams are now 9-2 in the SOC and trail Portsmouth Notre Dame which is 11-0. The two teams have split the season series. New Boston won the earlier meeting 70-50.
Green (12-4) got a pair of 3-poiner by Anna Knapp to ignite the run at the start of the game.
Lexus Oiler finally scored with one minute left in the quarter and Kenzie Whitley scored with 15 seconds on the clock.
New Boston battled back to within 17-14 with 3:43 left in the half and then 19-16 with 2 minutes on the clock but could not get any closer the rest of the game.
Knapp scored 5 points and she and Kasey Kimbler each hit 3-pointers in the second quarter for Green.
Oiler had two baskets as the Lady Tigers outscored Green 8-7 in the third quarter to trail 31-24, but the Lady Bobcats managed to keep the leads as they converted 11-of-20 from the foul line in the fourth quarter led by Charli Blevins who made 4-of-6 while Knapp, Kimbler and Sweeney were each 2-for-4.
Green’s largest lead came in the fourth quarter when it was 40-25 with 4:31 to play and 42-27 at the 3:55 mark.
Knapp led Green with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Kimbler had 13 points and 9 rebounds while Sweeney got 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
New Boston (12-6) was led by Oiler with 15 points.
