GALLIPOLIS — With leading scorer and rebounder Austin Webb nursing a injury, the South Point Pointers needed someone to step up and help fill the void.
Nakyan Turner turned out to be a pretty good volunteer.
Turner scored a career-high 26 points as the Pointers beat the Gallipolis Blue Devils 62-52 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Turner also had 6 rebounds and 5 steals for the Pointers (9-7, 6-4). Chance Gunther played his usual game with 14 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.
Another player who stepped up was Jake Adams with 10 points including a pair of 3-pointers.
Logan Blouir had 17 points and Justin Wilcoxon 13 to pace the Blue Devils (7-9, 3-7).
Turner scored 9 points including a 3-pointer and 4-of-4 at the foul line while Adams had a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and South Point was up 14-12.
Damon Cremeans and Blouir scored 4 each for Gallipolis.
Turners scored 6 points and Adams hit another 3-pointers and scored 5 points again as South Point went ahead 29-26 at the half.
Wilcoxon had two 3-pointers and had 8 points for the Blue Devils.
South Point limited Gallipolis to a mere basket by Isaac Clary in the third quarter and pulled away to a 46-28 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Gunther and Turner scored 7 points each as the Pointers outscored the Blue Devils 17-2.
In the fourth quarter, South Point connected on 10-of-17 from the foul line with Brody Blackwell going 4-for-4 and scoring 6 points, Gunther 3-of-4 and 5 points and Turner 2-of-4 as part of his 4 points.
Blouir scored 11 points and Cooper Davis hit a pair of 3-pointers as Gallipolis outscored South Point 24-16.
On Tuesday, South Point entertains Ironton and Gallipolis host Fairland.
