Dragons light up scoreboard in 82-45 win

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons didn’t just hog the spotlight, they hogged up all the points.
With other games postponed due to a flu outbreak, Fairland was in school on Tuesday and hosted the Huntington St. Joseph Irish.
Basking in the spotlight as the only game on the schedule, the Dragons gobbled up the points as they rolled to an 82-45 win over the Irish.
Fairland had four players in double figures led by Aiden Porter with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting including 6-of-7 from 2-point range.
Clayton Thomas made 5-of-11 shots from 3-point range as he scored 18 points and had 4 assists. Jacob Polcyn scored 12 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the Dragons’ lone senior Mason Manns went 3-of-4 from behind the arc and scored 15 points.
Christian Layne and Jaylen Motley scored 11 points each to lead St. Joseph which fell to 8-8 and 2-7 since losing leading scorer Kaden Warner.
Fairland took control from the start by racing to a 21-8 first quarter lead.
Porter hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points, Polcyn had 6 points and Thomas drained a pair of 3-pointers to ignite the fast start.
The Dragons exploded for 26 points in the second quarter as Thomas knocked down three more 3-pointers and scored 11 points. Zander Schmidt and Polcyn had 4 points each in the quarter and it was 47-22 at the half.
The lead ballooned to 67-33 after three quarters as Porter hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points and Manns added a trifecta.
Manns hit two more 3-pointers and scored 12 of Fairland’s 15 points in the fourth quarter.
