SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers lived by the 3, but they died by the 2.
The Pointers hit 10 3-pointers as a team but had just six 2-point goals in a 64-49 loss to the Spring Valley Timberwolves on Saturday.
Conversely, Spring Valley had just 4 3-pointers but 20 2-point goals.
The Pointers were led by Brody Blackwell who made six 3-pointers for 18 points and Chance Gunther made three bombs as he scored 15.
Spring Valley (8-9) was led by C.J. Meredith with a game-high 22 points. Corbin Page had 17 points and Brock Booth added 11.
Spring Valley took a 22-11 first quarter lead as Page got 8 points and Meredith hit a 3-pointer and had 5 points.
Chance Gunther made two 3-pointers and scored 8 points while Brody Blackwell added a trey.
Gunther hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points and Black made another 3-pointer as South Point cut the deficit to 36-26 at the half.
But with Gunther not able to play in the second half, the Pointers could only manage 8 points in the third quarter that included a pair of trifectas by Blackwell.
Page had 5 points as the T-Wolves extended the lead to 47-34.
Meredith had 11 points in the fourth quarter including a 3-poiner and 4-of-5 from the foul line while Booth added 6 points as the T-Wolves outscored the Pointers 17-15.
Blackwell had two more 3-pointers, Nakyan Turner scored 4 points and Kyle Badgett added a trey for the Pointers.
For the game, the Pointers hit 16-of-44 shots for 36 percent. They were 10-of-21 from the 3-point line for 48 percent.
Mason Kazee had 5 of the Pointers’ 23 rebounds with Blackwell, Carmelo Sammons and Darry Taylor getting 4 each.
