WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings could have used some help from the Waterloo Wonders.
On a night celebrating the history of the famous Waterloo Wonders, the Vikings wore throwback uniforms.
But Symmes Valley couldn’t match the Wonders’ ability to win almost every game they played as the lost a tough 74-68 decision to the Green Bobcats in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
The game was marred by 51 fouls called and the two teams combined to shoot 70 free throws.
Green was 20-of-37 from the line and the Vikings were 23-of-33.
Gage Sampson had 21 points, Ethan Huffman 16, Levi Singleton 14 and Levi Sampson 11 points to lead the Bobcats.
The Vikings (14-6, 9-4) were led by Jack Leith with 19 points, Drew Scherer had 13 and Logan Walsh added 11.
The Vikings got 10 points form Leith and took a 17-11 first quarter lead. Huffman had 6 points for Green.
Gage Sampson had 7 points and Singleton hit a pair of 3-pointers as Green cut the deficit to 30-26 at the half.
Scherer had 4 points as five different players scored for the Vikings.
The Bobcats erupted for 30 points in the third quarter and took a 56-45 lead.
Singleton hit two 3-poitners, Alec Smith scored all 7 of his points, Gage Sampson had a 3-pointers and went 3-of-4 at the line as he scored 8 points and Levi Sampson got 6 points including a 3-pointer.
Walsh and Tobey Smathers had 4 points each for the Vikings.
In the fourth quarter, the Vikings outscored Green 23-18 but still fell short.
The Vikings were 12-of-16 at the line with Scherer hitting a 3-pointer and going 4-of-4 at the line.
But Huffman scored 8 points and the Bobcats were 12-of-20 at the line.
