JACKSON — The second half hasn’t been kind to the Rock Hill Redmen this past season.
Looks like the season still had a chip on its shoulder for the Redmen on Tuesday.
Rock Hill played the Alexander Spartans close for the first half before seeing its defense disappear in the second half in a 44-30 loss in the Division 3 sectional tournament.
Alexander (16-7) led just 9-8 after the first quarter as Kyler D’Augustino hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points and 6-foot-10 Caleb Terry scored 4 points.
Logan Hankins hit a 3-pointer and Owen Hankins scored 3 points for the Redmen.
The Spartans were up just 25-19 halftime as D’Augustino scored 6 points and both Lucas Markins and Colby Carsey hit 3-pointers.
Braden Stamper knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and Braydon Malone had a triple of his own to keep the Redmen in striking distance.
A 3-pointer and two foul shots by Kaleb Easley helped Alexander stretch its lead to 34-25 after the third quarter.
Garrett Miller scored all 6 of his points in the third quarter and they proved to be Rock Hill’s only points of the quarter.
The Spartans converted 8-of-11free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome. Alexanders’ only basket was a 2-point goal by Terry.
A 3-pointer by Stamper and a basket by Logan Hankins accounted for all of Rock Hill’s scoring in the fourth quarter.
D’Augustino scored a game-high 16 points while Terry added 11 points for Alexander.
Stamper hit three 3-pointers for 9 points and Miller had 6 points for the Redmen (3-20).
Rock Hill had just 15 rebounds with Logan Hankins getting 5 and Malone 4. The Redmen were 12-of-37 from the field for 32 percent and 5-of-15 from the arc for 33 percent.
