On Friday afternoon, a man’s home in the 300 block of Washington Street in Coal Grove was destroyed in a fire.

A neighbor called 911 after her husband heard a loud bang around 2:37 p.m.

Kathy Waller said her husband, Frank, heard a loud explosion and when they looked out their door “the garage was pretty much engulfed already.”

The man, the sole occupant of the house, got out safely.

The Coal Grove Fire Department responded to the scene as well as units from the Upper Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department.
