MJ Wixsom: Reflecting on gratitude of others

Published 12:00 am Sunday, November 26, 2023

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of life, it’s all too easy to overlook the simple act of expressing gratitude.

However, at Guardian Animal Medical Center, the spirit of thankfulness is not only alive but thriving, especially during a season that demands a bit more from us than usual.

For many, the routine of listing and sharing daily gratitudes can be a source of solace and perspective.

This year, however, has been a different journey for one individual at Guardian Animal Medical Center — me.

Amid the preparations for my recent knee surgery, the usual daily reflections took a backseat to the challenges that come with such a significant life event.

Yet, amidst the whirlwind of activity, the clients of Guardian Animal Medical Center have proven to be a beacon of light.

Acts of kindness have poured in, demonstrating that sometimes gratitude finds its way to us even in the busiest of times.

Two separate occasions brought unexpected delights in the form of donuts, while cookies and brownies made their way into the hearts and stomachs of the veterinary team.

Remarkably, the generosity didn’t stop there.

As the nation observed Veterans Day, clients of Guardian Animal Medical Center extended their appreciation not only for the care of their furry companions but also for my Coast Guard service.

Thoughtful Veterans Day gifts arrived, bringing a warmth that transcended the clinic’s walls.

It was the nature of these gifts that stood out — two particularly fitting expressions of gratitude.

It’s as if the clients, attuned to the needs of the Guardian Animal Medical Center team, selected gifts that spoke directly to the challenges they were facing.

At Guardian Animal Medical Center, maintaining a positive atmosphere is not just a suggestion; it’s a way of life.

The clinic operates on a unique foul system, a practice designed to counteract negativity with a dose of gratitude.

Those who express negativity are prompted to share three things they are grateful for, fostering an environment where positivity prevails even in the face of challenges.

As we navigate the complexities of life, it’s clear that gratitude has the power to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary ones.

Guardian Animal Medical Center serves not only as a haven for the health and well-being of our furry friends but also as a testament to the strength that gratitude can bring, especially when shared among a community that values positivity.

In the words of MJ Wixsom, DVM MS, “Gratitude is not just a fleeting emotion but a force that binds us together, creating a tapestry of kindness and understanding. In this season of thanks, let us all take a moment to reflect on the myriad ways gratitude enriches our lives and the lives of those around us.”
