Lady Dragons open with win over Carroll

DAYTON — This trip to Dayton had a better ending.

The last time the Fairland Lady Dragons played in Dayton it was in the Division 2 state semifinals which resulted in a loss to Canal Fulton Northwest.

But Fairland opened its season on Saturday at Dayton Carroll and beat the Lady Pirates 66-59 as the Lady Dragons had 4 players in double figures.

Kylee Bruce led Fairland with 16 points and8 rebounds while Bree Allen had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Bailey Russell was right behind with 12 points and 8 boards while Addison Godby had 13 points.

Kiera Healy got 13 points and 11 rebounds to place Carroll (0-1). Eva Snyder and Maura Petrovie scored 13 each with Lyla Oliver adding 10 points and 3 assists.

Fairland took its biggest lead at 23-6 to start the game and never trailed en route to the win.

The Lady Dragons were up 23-9 at the end of the quarter before Carroll cut the deficit to 38-31 at the half.

But each team scored 12 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth.

Fairland will host Gallipolis on Monday, Dec. 4, in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
