A zero stands for nothing unless you’re the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers as a zero stands for great defense.

Ironton held Chesapeake scoreless in the second quarter and the Lady Fighting Tigers used it to vault them to a 42-40 win over the Lady Panthers.

Brooklyn McComas hit a pair of 3-pointers and Abbey Isaacs scored 4 points for the Lady Panthers who took an 11-10 first quarter lead.

Emerson White and Chasity Cecil each drilled a 3-pointer and sank a free throw for Ironton (1-1, 1-0).

The second quarter was a different story as Ironton scored 16 points and held Chesapeake scoreless to go up 26-11 at the half.

White buried two more 3-pointers and scored 8 points while Lola Hankins added 5 more points in the quarter.

Kate Ball took over in the third quarter for Chesapeake as she hit a pair a trifectas and scored 13 of the Lady Panthers 20 points. McComas added another 3-pointer as the Lady Panthers (0-1, 0-1) cut the deficit to 35-31.

Cecil hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 or Ironton’s 9 points in the quarter.

Chesapeake was 5-of-8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter but Hankins and Addison Neal each had baskets and Ironton made 3-of-6 from the foul line to hold on for the win.

The Lady Fighting Tigers were just 9-of-20 from the foul line for the game while Chesapeake made 10-of-13.

White led Ironton with 13 points with Cecil and Hankins scoring 9 each.

Ball had a game-high 18 points for the Lady Panthers. Isaacs and McComas scored 8 apiece.

On Thursday, Ironton visits Coal Grove while Chesapeake entertains South Point.
