Landers leads Shawnee State bowling to 12th place finish

PORTSMOUTH — The men’s bowling program at Shawnee State used a pin count of 6,783 to claim a 12th place finish in the Jackson Open Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Mich.
Individually, Coal Grove graduate Blake Landers proved to be on point throughout as Landers bowled no lower than 179 while posting three individual games above 200 — posting a 202 in Game 2, a 233 in Game 3 and a 223 in Game 4 — en route to a four-game 837 and a 209.3 pin average.
Huntington, W. Va.’s Sam Clay nestled himself in right behind Landers — as the Tri-State Area product bowled a team-high 254 in Game 2 and added in a 203 in Game 3 to finish with a four-game 826 and a 206.5 pin average.
Jaylen Sumler and Parker Lauders added in solid averages themselves — as Sumler bowled a 203 in Game 2 and a 220 in Game 4 en route to a four-game 776 for an average of 194 pins, while Lauders posted a 198 in Game 1 and a 203 in Game 4 en route to a four-game 765 for an average of 191.5 pins per game.
Zach Ison posted a Game 1 215 as his high before ultimately finishing with a four-game 726 to round out the efforts for the Bears.
In Baker games, Shawnee State bowled a team best of 223 in the 13th Baker game and also added in marks of 222 and 201 in Baker games 11 and 12. The Bears bowled marks of 193 and 191 in the first and second Baker games as well as 199 in the fourth Baker affair and 193 in the ninth Baker contest.
Shawnee State completed the 2023 portion of its schedule Saturday and will be back in action Jan. 14, 2023 when the Bears compete in the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa.
