3 hospitalized from U.S. 52 accident on Wednesday

An accident on Wednesday sent three people to a hospital and tied up traffic on U.S. 52 for a couple of hours.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Nick Lunsford said that the post got a call around 5:18 p.m. about a collision in the westbound lane of the highway.

Lunsford said that a vehicle collided with stopped vehicles in the left-hand lane that were waiting in the turn lane for the Ashland bridge. The collision caused other cars to hit each the one in front of them resulting in four cars being damaged.

Three people suffered serious injuries and were transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital. As of Thursday afternoon, two had been released and one person was still hospitalized. Two other people had minor injuries that did not require a hospital visit.

Lunsford said three of the cars were towed away and the fourth was driven from the crash site.

The cause of the accident is being investigate. No charges have been filed at this time.

“We are going to let our crash reconstruction team take a look at everything and then we will refer it to the prosecutor’s office,” Lunsford said.
