LOGAN — What he wanted and what he got were 2 different things. But as things turned out, that was just fine with South Point coach Travis Wise.

Wise had a different plan than what transpired, but the Pointers used a big fourth quarter to beat the Unioto Shermans 70-65 on Saturday in the Logan Holliday Tournament.

“We wanted to start strong. The game was very physical and we adjusted at the half,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.

“Caleb (Lovely) and Carter (Smith) played well with (Brayden) Hanshaw, (Eli) Wilburn and (Josh) Childers giving us a spark.”

Lovely led all scorers with 27 points with Carter getting 18 points.

Unioto (3-4) had 4 players in double digits as K.B. Perkins and Blake Fitch scored 12 points each. Newton Hoops had 11 and Zeke Schobelock had 10.

Fitch scored 6 points with Blake Hoops getting 5 points as he and Newton Hoops each hit 3-pointers to take an 18-15 first quarter lead.

The Pointers cut the deficit to 35-34 at the half as Lovely scored 8 points and Childers 7 points as each hit a 3-pointer.

Scobelock knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and 5 different players scored for the Shermans.

Each team scored 12 points in the third quarter and the game remained a one-point difference at 47-46.

Smith drained a 3-pointer and scored 7 points for South Point while Perkins scored 5 points for Unioto.

Lovely buried a trifecta and scored 12 points ini the fourth quarter that included a 3-point play as well. Smith also had a 3-pointer and both he and Lovely went 2-for-2 at the foul line.

Haney was 3-of-3 as he scored 5 points and South Point outscored the Shermans 24-18 in the quarter.

“We made some key free throws late with Haney and Caleb making both of theirs,” said Wise.

Perkins and Newton Hoops scored 5 points with Schobelock and Fitch getting 4 each.

The Pointers host Huntington High on Thursday.
