PEDRO — There’s no better way to honor a legendary basketball icon like Carl Large than with a basketball classic.

Welcome to The Carl Large Middle School Basketball Classic.

Rock Hill Middle School is hosting the basketball classic in honor of former player and coach Carl Large.

“Rock Hill Middle School is honored to host this Classic in Carl’s name,” said Rock Hill Middle School principal Jason Owens.

“Rock Hill basketball will always be synonymous with the name of Carl Large.”

Large was an All-Ohio basketball star in the Rock Hill school district who was the first player to perfect the jump shot in the area. He signed with Ohio State but later played at Rio Grande where he is now enshrined in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rock Hill Middle School coach Bryan Jenkins said the event has been in the works since April of last year.

“It is nice to see it come to fruition. We are thankful to the Large family for allowing us to name this event after Carl,” said Jenkins.

“Carl Large student/athlete and adult career is certainly one to be remembered and a legacy that will forever live with our school and community. I’m looking forward to meeting some of the Large family that has contacted me who will be making the trip down.”
