Panthers snap losing skid against Dragons

The Chesapeake Panthers snapped a 17-game losing streak to Fairland as they topped the Dragons 72-62 Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Maddox Kazee scored 19 points to lead 4 players in double figures for the Panthers (7-3, 3-2). Dannie Maynard scored 14 while Ethan Kerns and Kaden Perkins had 12 each.

Brody Buchanan had a huge game for the Dragons with a game-high 28 points. Chase Allen scored 14 points and Will Davis added 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Perkins hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points while Maynard nailed a triple and scored 5 points as Chesapeake took a 20-16 first quarter lead.

Buchanan and Allen hit 3-pointers as they each scored 5 points and Davis added 4 more for the Dragons (6-4, 3-2).

The Panthers extended the lead to 37-30 at the half as Kazee scored 7 points, Perkins had 5 points including another 3-pointer and Kerns added a trey.

Buchanan scored 6 points and Allen hit a trey for Fairland.

The offense slowed to a crawl in the third quarter as Chesapeake outscored Fairland 8-4 and the lead was 45-34.

Kazee had 4 points with Maynard and Braxton Oldaker each adding a back for the Panthers.

Buchanan had a basket and Allen 2 free throws to account for Fairland’s scoring.

The offenses really picked up in the fourth quarter and teams kept pace with each other which forced Fairland to foul.

But the Panthers were up to the challenge as they converted 16-of-22 from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Chesapeake was 19-of-27 for the game.

Oldaker and Kerns each went 4-of-4 at the line, Maynard was 5-of-8 and Caleb Cox 3-of-4.

Buchanan drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 15 of the Dragons 28 points in the quarter. Davis hit a triple and scored 7 points while Allen had 4 points including 2 free throws.

Fairland was 2-of-3 from the foul line in the quarter and 8-of-11 for the game.
