Facts about diabetes in the U.S.:

About 96 million adults have prediabetes, which puts them at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. That is more than one in every three adults.

• Type 2 diabetes can occur at any age, but research shows that high risk factors include:

– being 45 years of age or older and not physically active

– being overweight or have obesity

– having a parent, brother, or sister with type 2 diabetes

– for women, having diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes) or a baby weighing more than 9 pounds at birth

Research shows preventing or delaying type 2 diabetes is possible by making healthy lifestyle changes.
