Porous defense proves costly in Lady Vikings loss

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings were guilty 7 errors that led to 6 unearned runs in a 10-6 Southern Ohio Conference loss to the Northwest Lady Mohawks on Wednesday.

“We didn’t play well. Any time you make seven errors, you’re going to lose,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “Hopefully, we’ll learn from this and bounce back.”

The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 in top of the second inning.

Savannah Mart singled, Marley Ferguson hit into a fielder’s choice, Natalie Simpson singled and Addy Ridenour had an RBI single. Kaycee Thompson grounded out as the second run scored.

Northwest came back with 6 run in the bottom of the inning on 4 hits and 3 errors.

Brooklyn Hawes led off with a hit and Karleigh South got a one-out single. Janeatte Mustain was safe on an error and Alayna Bazler walked. South scored on a passed ball. Abby Throckmorton singled for a run and an outfield error scored 2 more runs.

Lauren Redoutey followed with a 2-run home run to cap the rally.

The Lady Mohawks got 4 more runs in the third to lead 10-2.

With one out, South and Mustain singled, Bazler reached on an error, Throckmorton singled home 2 runs, Redoutey and Runyon both reached on errors and Puckett had a 2-run single. Puckett had an RBI single to cap the rally.

The Lady Vikings got a run back in the fourth when Ferguson was safe on an error, Simpson hit into a force out, Ridenour singled, Ally Haydon hit into a force play and Kaycee Thompson doubled for a run.

Symmes Valley made a comeback in the

Ferguson, Autumn Justice and Ridenour all singled for a run.Thompson hit into a fielder’s choice and Addy Hawk hit into a force play to score a run and Emma Ridenour singled to score Addi Ridenour.

Addi Ridenour was 3-3 and Emma Ridenour 2-4 to lead the Lady Vikings 11-hit attack.

Throckmorton was 2-3 and South 2-4 to lead Northwest.

Redoutey got the win with 6 innings of work. Puckett worked the seventh.

Tibbs started and took the loss as she worked 3 innings,  Mart went 3 innings in relief.
