Salyer, Fairland slip past Trojans

PROCTORVILLE — No matter how tough a team plays the Fairland Dragons, Kaylee Salyer is just as tough.

The Portsmouth Lady Trojans had only one win in the Ohio Valley Conference and challenged Fairland on Tuesday, but Salyer was up to the challenge as she fired a 13 strikeout performance in a 3-2 win.

Salyer gave up 5 hits and one earned run as she did not walk a batter to get the complete game win.

Fairland (5-1, 3-0) had 7 hits with 7 different players getting hits. Alley Shepherd was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, Katie Dehart 1-3 with a triple, Hailey Sammons, Aubrey Hayes, Katy Bell and Salyer all 1-2 with Jordan Spencer 1-3.

Sammons also had a run batted in.

Portsmouth (3-7, 1-5) was led by Emily Cheatham who was 2-4. Madison Boren and Olivia Dickerson were 1-3 with an RBI while Katie Ankrom was 1-3.

Dickerson worked 6 innings in taking the tough loss. She walked 3 and did not have a strikeout.
