Late surge lifts Lady Tigers past East Carter

CANNONSBURG, Ky. — For the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers, 8 was enough.

The Lady Fighting Tigers scored 8 runs in the fifth inning to fuel a rally that gave them a 10-9 win over the East Carter Lady Raiders on Saturday in the Tri-State Showcase.

Ironton got a run in the top of the first as Graycie Brammer walked, moved up on a ground out and scored on a double by Aubrey Ferguson.

East Carter (10-3) tied the game in the bottom of the inning on 4 walks with 2 outs.

The Lady Fighting Tigers regained the lead with a run in the second when Layla Townsend walked, Katelyn Williams singled and Brammer reached on an error.

But the Lady Raiders scored 4 times in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-2.

A hit batter and 2 walks filled the bases and Payton Rice doubled home 2 runs and 2 runs scored on wild pitches.

Rice hit a solo home run in the fourth to push the East Carter lead to 6-2.

But then came the 8-run fifth inning as the Lady Fighting Tigers went ahead 10-6.

Khamil Martin led off the inning with a home run. Ferguson was hit by a pitch, Kenley Neal reached on an error, Moore doubled for a run. Braylin Wallace walked and Townsend doubled home 2 runs. Williams then doubled in a pair of runs.

Martin walked and Ferguson ripped a 2-run double to cap the rally.

East Carter got 2 runs in the sixth when Rice singled and Trina Porter hit a home run.

The Lady Raiders got an unearned run in the seventh.

With one out, Emily Bidde reached on an error and Hayleigh Hall singled her home. But Wallace got the final 2 outs to end the game.

Ava Bihl started her first varsity game and went 4 innings for the win. Wallace finished up for the save.

Ironton (8-4) had 10 hits with Ferguson going 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Townsend was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Williams 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Moore 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and Martin 1-4 with a home run.

Rise was 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI as East Carter managed 7 hits. Porter was 1-2 with a home run and 2 RBI, Felty 1-2, Hall 1-3 with an RBI and Laken Knipp 1-4.
