Lady Vikings edged by Lady Rams; roll past GRC, Lincoln County

RACELAND, Ky. — There’s an old saying that it’s better to give than to receive. Don’t expect the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings to buy into it.

The Lady Vikings’ pitchers gave up 5 unearned runs as they lost 6-2 to the Raceland Lady Rams on Friday in the Tri-State Showcase.

“We hit the ball but they made some nice catches in the outfield,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “Our pitching wasn’t bad but we gave them some baserunners with walks and we had a couple of costly errors.”

Raceland (17-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Bryn Wellman had a bunt single, stole second and Kali Vance singled her home.

Symmes Valley took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when Desiree Simpson walked leading off and Marley Ferguson drilled a long home run.

But the Lady Rams got 5 unearned runs in the bottom of the inning that settled the outcome.

Lilly Pullin singled, Shelby Gauze reached on a 2-out error and Peyton Mackie walked to load the bases. A wild pitch scored a run, Kali Vance walked, Davanna Grubb walked, Reagan Mackie singled for 2 runs.

Mackie got in a rundown and scored the final.

Brenna Tibbs took the loss as she gave up 3 hits in 4.2 innings, 5 runs but only one earned, struck out 3 and walked 4. Savannah Mart finished and allowed 2 hits and an unearned run.

Grubb got the win as she gave up 2 hits, struck out 6 and walked 3.

Ferguson was 1-3 with the home run and 2 RBI while Addy Hawk was 1-1 for the Lady Vikings.

FLATWOODS, Ky. — There was a defining moment in this game that told fans everything they had to know.

At one stretch the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings had 9 straight hits. Yes, 9 straight.

Those 9 hits were part of a 17-hit attack as the Lady Vikings routed the George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals 17-1 in 4 innings on Saturday in the Tri-State Showcase.

Symmes Valley jumped out to a 3-0 in the inning.

Desiree Simpson walked, Marley Ferguson singled, both moved up on a wild pitch and Savannah Mart had a 2-run double. Kaycee Thompson singled home Mart.

The Lady Cardinals got a run in the top of the third but Brenna Tibbs hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning for the Lady Vikings.

Symmes Valley blew the game open with 13 runs in the fourth inning with 11 hits including 9 in a row.

Addi Ridenour led off with a hit and moved up on a throwing error. Autumn Justice singled and moved up on an error as Ridenour scored and then Natalie Simpson singled to drive in Justice.

Emma Ridenour and Tibbs singled for a run. Simpson doubled to clear the bases, Ferguson and Mart singled to score Simpson, Addi Ridenour walked, Justice hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored, Natalie Simpson singled, Emma Ridenour and Tibbs both walked, Natalie Simpson scored on a wild pitch and Desiree Simpson doubled home 2 runs.

Desiree Simpson was 3-3 with 2 doubles and a triple, Tibbs 2-3 with a home run, Ferguson, Mart, Thompson and Natalie Simpson all 2-3, Emma Ridenour and Addi Ridenour 1-3, and Justice 1-2.

Mart worked the 4 innings for the win as she struck out 6, walked 3 and the only run was earned.

The Lady Cardinals (2-18) had 4 hits as Kennedy Estep went 1-2, Kennedy Ensey 1-2 with a double, Addison Wilson 1-2 and Abby Horn 1-2.

FLATWOODS, Ky. — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings may have needed some ice to cool down their bats enough so they could grip them.

The Lady Vikings’ bats were hot as they beat the Lincoln County Lady Patriots 13-0 in a run rule win on Saturday in the Tri-State Showcase.

“We faced some pitchers but we hit the ball well. Our bats were great this weekend. They were hot,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Not only were their bats hot, so was the pitching of Brenna Tibbs who pitched a 2-hitter over 5 innings. Tibbs struck out 10 and walked 3.

The Lady Vikings (10-6) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Tibbs walked with one out, Desiree Simpson singled, Marley Ferguson reached on an error for a run and a throwing error scored Simpson.

The lead went to 7-0 in the second inning.

Addi Riddenour and Addy Hawk walked, moved up on a passed ball and Emma Ridenour singled them home. Tibbs walked, 2 wild pitches scored a run, Simpson and Ferguson singled for a run and Savannah Mart hit into force out as a run scored.

The Lady Vikings put the game away with 6 runs in the fourth.

Emma Ridenour singled, Tibbs doubled and Simpson doubled them home. Ferguson singled home Simpson, Mart singled and Kaycee Thompson was safe on an error that scored 2 runs.

Addi Ridenour singled, Hawk walked and Emma Ridenour had a 2-run double.

Simpson was 3-3 with a double and 4 runs batted in, Emma Ridenour was 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI, Tibbs 1-2 with a double, Ferguson 2-2, Mart 1-2 with 2 RBI and Addi Ridenour 1-2.

The Lady Patriots (3-9) had 2 hits as Trinity Price and Shelby Smith each went 1-2.
