Lady Fighting Tigers power past Pointers

SOUTH POINT — The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aren’t the only ones who can “Power Up.”

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers showed their power on Wednesday with 4 home runs and 5 doubles in a 19-2 rout of the South Point Lady Pointers in an Ohio Valley Conference game.


Bella Sorbilli

Bella Sorbilli flipped the power switch by going 3-for-3 with a double, a grand slam home run and driving in 7 runs. Khamil Martin also hooked up her power chord as she went 3-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI.

Graycie Brammer was 2-3 with a home run and 2 RBI, Aubrey Ferguson was 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, and Katelyn Moore 2-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Braylin Wallace was 1-3 with 2 RBI, Ava Bihl 1-1 with an RBI, Katie Williams 2-3, Layla Townsend 1-1 and Emily Weber was 1-4.

Ironton (10-4, 5-1) wasted little time getting its offense in gear with 4 runs in the first inning.

Martin singled and Ferguson doubled her home, Kenley Neal walked, Moore reached on a dropped third strike, Wallace grounded out as a run scored, and Sorbilli singled in a run.

The lead went to 9-0 in the second inning.

Brammer hit a one-out solo home run and Martin followed with an inside-the-park home run. Neal drew a 2-out walk, Moore doubled and Wallace had an RBI single. Sorbilli then doubled home the final 2 runs.

The Lady Fighting Tigers put the game away with 8 runs in the third inning.

Williams led off with a single, stole second and scored on a hit by Brammer. Martin followed with a 2-run homer that scored courtesy runner Olivia Wilson.

Neal walked, Moore doubled, Wallace was hit by a pitch and Sorbilli unloaded a long drive over the centerfield fence for a grand slam home run.

Weber and Williams singled, Brammer walked and Martin grounded into a force play as Weber scored.

Ferguson doubled, Breagan Thomas walked, Townsend and Bihl singled for a run and Aubrey Shavers grounded out for an RBI.

The Lady Pointers (3-10, 0-6) avoided the shutout in the third inning when Kaylee Stidham hit a home run after Adyson Copley reached on a fielder’s choice.

Wallace went 3 innings for the win as she gave up 2 hits, 2 earned runs struck out 5 and walked 2. Bihl finished up and did not give up a hit or run, struck out 5 of the 6 outs and walked one.
