Deeds fires perfect game as Lady Hornets top Lady Panthers

COAL GROVE —They say nobody is perfect, but Abbie Deeds challenged that.

Deeds pitched a 5-inning perfect game with 10 strikeouts as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets blanked the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 18-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Saturday.

Deeds threw 63 pitchers with 48 going for strikes. On offense, Deeds was 2-for-2 with a home run, a triple and 2 runs batted inning. She also walked twice.

Coal Grove (7-7, 5-2) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Deeds slugged a home run leading off the inning. Kassidy Travis and Izzy Kitts got singles and Rylee Black doubled. Mia Haynes followed with a double and the final run scored when Kasey Vanderhoof grounded out.

The Lady Hornets erupted for 12 runs in the second inning to lead 17-0.

Tayler Endlich led off with a single, Deeds walked, Travis singled, Kitts was hit by a pitch and Black doubled.

Haynes was hit by a pitch and Jenna Anson grounded out as a run scored. Braelie Hitchcock walked and Deeds cleared the bases with a triple.

Travis walked, Kitts, Black and Haynes were all hit by pitches, Vanderhoof and Anson walked, Hitchcock singled, Deeds walked and Travis singled to score the final run of the rally.

The final run scored in the third inning when Hitchcock singled, Deeds walked and Travis got an RBI single.

Coal Grove had 12 hits with Travis 3-3 with 2 RBI, Kitts 1-2 with 2 RBI, Black 2-2 with a double and 2 RBI, Haynes 2-2 with a double and 3 RBI, Hitchcock 1-2 and Endlich 1-3 with an RBI. Vanderhoof and Anson had 2 RBI each.
