Medinger brothers help Flyers rout New Boston

Brady and Blake Medinger combined for 3 hits and 4 runs batted in as the St. Joseph Flyers beat the New Boston Tigers 11-1 in a Southern Ohio Conference run rule game on Wednesday.

Blake Medigner was 2-2 with 2 RBI and Brady “Quinn” Medinger 1-2 with 2 RBI.

But the Medingers weren’t alone. The Flyers had 12 hits.

The Flyers had 12 hits with Drew Brown having a big day as he went 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Wesley Neal 1-2 with a double, Ian Whaley 1-1 with an RBI,  Darryn “Hitman” Harvey 1-1, Landon “Rocky” Rowe and Carson Willis each 1-2, Rex Weber 1-1 with an RBI and Mason Weber 1-2 with an RBI.

The Flyers took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Rowe reached second on an error, stole third and scored on a hit by Brady Medinger. Evan Balestra was hit by a pitch and Brown doubled the runners home.

Brown stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jake Stephens.

Neal doubled , stole third and scored on a throwing error.

The Flyers made it 7-0 in the second inning as Rowe singled, stole second and third and scored on Brown’s second double. Brown stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

St. Joseph got 2 more runs in the third inning with 2 outs.

Mason Weber walked, stole second and third and scored on a hit by Whaley. Blake Medinger singled home Whaley who had stolen second and third.

New Boston got its only run in the fourth inning when Coleton Maynard, Austin Goodman walked and a throwing error scored Maynard.

The Flyers ended the game early with 2 runs in the fifth inning.

Willis, Rex Weber and Mason Weber all singled for a run. Ian Whaley walked and Blake Medinger singled home the final run.

Eli Whaley got the win as he gave up 2 hits and had 3 strikeouts. Willis finished and gave up an unearned run, struck out 9 and walked 3.

Devin Allard and Levigh Cooper were 1-2 for New Boston (0-13, 0-9).
