Things continue to go well for Lady Vikings

AID — All’s well that ends well. And lately for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings, things have been ending well.

After a 5-1 win on Thursday against Southern Ohio Conference 2 foe Eastern, the Lady Vikings picked up 2 wins in the annual Valley of Thunder Softball Classic.

“The kids are hitting well and playing a good defense,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “Sav (Savannah Mart) pitched well. She kept them off-balance really well.”

The Lady Vikings began the Valley of Thunder with a seventh inning comeback to beat the Logan Elm Lady Braves 6-5.

Logan Elm (15-4) got 2 runs in the top of the first inning.

Lynsay Vanhoose singled and went to second on an error. Sadie Binkley singled home Vanhoose, moved up on a fielder’s choice and Jaycee Clifton doubled for a run.

Symmes Valley tied the game in the bottom of the inning with 2 outs when Desiree Simpson singled and Marley Ferguson cranked a 2-run home run to left.

Logan Elm went up 4-2 in the second inning when Peyton Richendollar singled, Hannah Gooley singled with one out and Vanhoose and Binkley had singles for a run and Ryleigh Wolfe got an RBI double.

The Lady Vikings (17-6) got within 4-3 in the third inning.

Addi Ridenout walked and with 2 outs Emma Ridenour and Brenna Tibbs both singled to load the bases and Simpson had a sacrifice fly.

The lead went to 5-3 in top of the fifth when Binkley doubled and Clifton singled her home.

The winning rally in the seventh with no outs.

Ferguson led off with a single, Mart was hit by a pitch, Addi Ridenour walked and Kaycee Thompson had a 2-run single to center field.

Ferguson was 2-3 with a home run, Simpson and Emma Ridenour were 2-4, Addi Ridenour 1-2, Mart 1-3 and Thompson 1-4.

Mart got the win as she went the distance, gave up 10 hits, 5 earned runs with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks.

AID — Symmes Valley was impressive in their second Valley of Thunder game.

The Lady Vikings got 12 hits en route to a 13-0 run rule win over the Kettering Alter Lady Knights as pitchers Brenna Tibbs and Addy Hawk combined on a no-hitter.

Tibbs worked 3 innings for the win as she struck out 7 and walked 2. Hawk fanned 4 and did not walk a batter in her 2 innings.

The Lady Vikings went up 3-0 in the first inning.

Tibbs had an inside-the-park home run with one out. Marley Ferguson and Savannah Mart singled and 2 overthrows scored Ferguson. Mart moved up on 2 wild pitches and scored on a passed ball.

The lead went to 8-0 in the second.

Natalie Simpson led off with a hit, Kaycee Thompson singled, Addi Ridenour hit into a fielder’s choice, Emma Ridenour walked, Tibbs singled for 2 runs and Desiree Simpson had an inside-the-park home run.

Ferguson walked, moved up on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a hit by Mart.

The lead went to 11-0 in the third inning.

Natalie Simpson, Kaycee Thompson and Addi Ridenour all walked, Emma Ridenour singled home 2 runs and Desiree Simpson doubled home the third run of the inning..

The Lady Vikings made it 13-0 in the fourth.

Ally Haydon singled and went to second on an error, Thompson walked, Addi Ridenour walked, Emma Ridenour walked to force home a run and Tibbs singled in the final run.

Tibbs and Desiree Simpson both went 3-4 with a home run, Mart 3-4, Natalie Simpson, Ally Haydon and Kaycee Thompson 1-1, Ferguson 1-3 and Emma Ridenour 1-2.

AID — Getting in the right position.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings put themselves in position to clinch at least a share of the Southern Ohio Conference 2 championship with a 5-1 win over the Eastern Lady Eagles on Thursday.

Symmes Valley is 14-6 overall and 8-1 in the SOC. The Lady Vikings need a win at home on Monday against Oak Hill.  Northwest is also 8-1 in the SOC.

The Lady Vikings went up 1-0 in the first inning with two outs as Desiree Simpson, Marley Ferguson and Mart all singled.

Eastern tied the game in the second when Madison Schuler singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on an error.

But the Lady Vikings took the lead for good with 2 runs in the third inning.

Simpson doubled, Ferguson singled and a throwing error  put runners at second and third. Addi Ridenour then delivered a 2-run single.

The Lady Vikings got a run in the fifth inning when Mart singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Natalie Simpson.

Mart went 7 innings for the win as she gave up only3 hits, struck out 8, walked one and the only run was unearned.

Desiree Simpson was 3-4 with a double, Ferguson and Mart 2-3, Addie Ridenour and Natalie Simpson 1-3 and Brenna Tibbs 1-4.

Megam Nickell was 1-3 with a double while Schuer and Lynnleigh McCollister were each 1-3 for Eastern

Symmes Valley will host Oak Hill on Monday needing a win to clinch at least a share of the SOC title.
