Dragons bounce back with win over Panthers

PROCTORVILLE — Don’t expect the Fairland Dragons to roll over and quit.

After a 6-3 loss to South Point ruined the Dragons the Ohio Valley Conference title hopes, Fairland bounced back with 2 straight wins including a 10-4 victory over the Chesapeake Panthers on Friday.

Ethan Wall pitched a 5-hitter as he struck out 14, walked 4, hit 3 and gave up 4 earned runs as he went the distance for the win.

Fairland (10-11, 10-3) took a 1-0 lead in the second as Wall doubled and came when Cyrus Cummings reached on an error.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third inning.

Keegan Smith led off with a single, moved up on error and passed ball, then scored on Brycen Hunt’s base hit.

Hunt went to third thanks to an error and stolen base and scored when Blaze Perry singled. Perry stole second and third and came home on a throwing error.

Chesapeake (5-14, 1-12 ) got a run in the top of the fourth when Aden Parrott singled, Peyton Muncy walked, and the run came home after two straight hit batsmen.

But the Dragons answered with 3 more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Ben Southard singled, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on Smith’s sacrifice fly.

Hunt then singled and rode home on Perry’s 2-run home run.

Fairalnd got a run in the fifth on a double by Carson Sansom and a single by Smith.

The final 2 Dragons’ runs scored in the sixth.

Hunt was hit by a pitch, stole second, Eli Blankenship and Wall walked, Garrett Cornwell grounded out for a run and Smith grounded out for another RBI.

The Panthers got 3 runs in the seventh.

Eli Pratt walked, Parrott was hit by a pitch and they both scored on a double by Muncy.

Perry was 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBI, Hunt 2-3 with an RBI, Wall and Sansom each 1-3 with a double, Smith 2-2 with 2 RBI and Southard 1-3.

Muncy was 2-3 with a double.
