After an extensive search by both law officers and canine sniffing dogs on Friday, no explosive devices were found at the Sam’s Club in South Point.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said that the caller with a male voice phoned in a threat around 11:25 a.m. and said that he was going to blow up the place. Within a few minutes, a second call was received by the what investigators believe is the same caller.
Deputies, along with the Fayette Township Fire Department, help to evacuate the building.
Lawless then called for assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Columbus Fire Department’s bomb detecting canines to assist in sweeping this wholesale club for explosive devices.
Detectives also contacted the FBI and they began the process of tracking down the phone number of the caller and where it originated from.
Law enforcement, fire personnel, and the canines performed an extensive search of the building and no explosive devices were located. Sam’s Club was closed for several hours but was later reopened to the public on Friday.
Detectives continue to follow up on positive leads into who is responsible for this bomb threat and the investigation remains ongoing.
