AB. HR. WP. RBI. Those are all baseball abbreviations.

So is Russell 8, Ironton 2.

The Russell Red Devils beat the Ironton Fighting Tigers 8-2 on Tuesday in an abbreviated game as rainy weather forced the game to end after 5 innings.

The game was scoreless until the third when Russell scored 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and an error.

Parker Mitchell was safe on an error, Kyle Mokas walked and Elijah Hankins singled to load the bases. Nick Adams grounded out with Mitchell scoring.

Jayden Fraaure and Jared Whitt followed with RBI singles.

A wild pitch scored a run and Caden Mitchell and Caden Criswell walked to force in a run. A second wild pitch scored the final run.

Ironton answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tanner Kleinman reached on catcher’s interference and scored on a one-out double by Ian “Snap” Ginger. Tyler Roach singled to put runners on the corner and Jon Wylie hit a sacrifice fly.

Russell added a run in the fourth when Hankins walked, stole second, took third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.

The Red Devils added 2 more runs in the fifth to lead 8-2.

Whitt got a leadoff walk, Gunnar Hignite got 2-out walked and Parker Mitchell had a 2-run double.

Frasure got the win for Russell as he went 5 innings allowing just 3 hits, one earned run, with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Ginger was 2-2 with a double and an RBI while Roach was 1-3 to account for Ironton’s hitting.

Ginger started and went 2.1 innings in taking the loss. Ironton’s 3 pitchers combined to walk 8 batters.

Ironton will host Adena at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Division 3 sectional finals.
