Freda “Laverne” (Sturgill) Bensinger, 95, of Ironton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters on Monday, May 20, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Bensinger was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Hanging Rock, a daughter to the late John and Josephine (Miller) Sturgill.

She was also preceded in death on Sept. 27, 2023, by the love of her life George A. Bensinger, whom she married Aug. 18, 1953.

Mrs. Bensinger was a graduate of Hanging Rock High School.

She was a loving homemaker. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed being able to spend time with them.

She attended First Methodist Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her two brothers; two sisters; and a great-grandson, Baker Scott.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Doug) Philabaun, of Ironton and Teresa (Doug) Scott, of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Alisa (Doug) McCray, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Jason (Lindsay) Philabaun, of Hurricane, West Virginia, Andrew (Marisa) Philabaun, of Lewis Center, Brandon (Ashley) Scott, of Milton, West Virginia and Sean (McKenna) Scott, of Proctorville; five great grandchildren, Evan Philabaun, Preston McCray, Caitlin McCray, Hayes Philabaun, Roen Scott and another great grandson on the way; a sister Fern Wagner; and brother, Don Sturgill.

Graveside services will be noon Saturday in Woodland Cemetery, with Pastor Sam Peters officiating.

There will be a public visitation Saturday, 10:45–11:45 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton,
