Fairland 12th at cross country meet

The Fairland Dragons’ cross country team is a close group. They proved it at the Division II regional meet.

With their runners finished close to each other, the Dragons placed 12th overall as a team.

Fairland had 252 points to place 12th overall. Saint Clairsville won with 94 points and Southeast District champion Unioto was second with 119 points.

Freshman Tanner Mattie led the Dragons with a 30th place finish as he ran the course in 17:40.59. Six spots behind him was junior Chad Gibson with a 17:49.64 time and junior Joe Stewart was No. 46 with an 18:04.83 showing.

Others competing for the Dragons were:

No. 86 Eddie Adkins, senior, 18:52.61, No. 103 Robbie Hinshaw, sophomore, 19:19.17, No. 113 Garrett Wireman, junior, 19:30.32, and No. 115 Jesse Emery, sophomore, 19:56.56.

Ironton sophomore Adam Stumbo put together a time of 18:32.11 to finish in the No. 72 spot overall among the 126 runners.

Ironton Lady Fighting Tiger sophomore Taylor Hacker ran well in the Division III meet with a 21:53.06 clocking to finish No. 56 overall in the field of 131 runners.

Fairland Lady Dragons’ senior Kira Dillon finished No. 75 out of 132 runners in the Division II meet with a 22:00.07 time.
