David Crowe

COLUMBUS — David Thomas Crowe, 80, of Columbus, died peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. He was born July 26, 1931, in Ironton, to David and Charlotte Crowe.

On Sept. 5, 1953, he married Virginia Bosley who preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2001, after 48 years. David and Virginia lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe while David served as a captain in the U.S. Army. After his return to Ironton, he practiced dentistry for 34 years. Upon retirement, David and Virginia moved to Dublin to be close to family. During his life, David was very involved with his church. He especially enjoyed travel, reading and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and son, Bruce. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, David and Vonalaine Crowe of Sammamish, Wash.; Christopher and Fei Lee Crowe of Lewis Center and Julie and Kent Miller of Dublin. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Allison and Amanda Crowe of Sammamish, Alice and Noah Crowe of Lewis Center and Jacob and Grace Miller of Dublin.

The family is grateful to the staff of Scioto Community for their outstanding care of our father. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Phillips Funeral Home Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Douglas Brubaker

LAURA — Douglas Alan Brubaker, 42, of Laura, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Kettering Medical Center, Dayton, after a courageous battle against cancer.

He was born Dec. 19, 1968, in Troy. Doug was the son of the late David G. Brubaker and Jean (Jones) Brubaker Mattis. He is survived by his beloved mother, Jean; stepfather, Kenneth L. Mattis; sisters, Carol (Mike) Fox of Tipp City; stepbrother, Kenneth R. (Rob) Mattis and wife, Katie of Tipp City; grandmothers, Blanche Jones of Wellington and Audrey Mattis of West Milton; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many first cousins and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his father, David G. Brubaker; and grandparents, Fenton and Louise Brubaker; Edgar Jones and Kenneth M. Mattis.

Doug was a 1987 graduate of Milton-Union High School and graduated from Ohio State University in 1992 with a degree in agriculture mechanization. He was employed by Great Plains Manufacturing Inc., as a product specialist. He had previously worked at Hartzell Fan in Piqua. He has been active in 4-H and FFA, a member of Nashville United Church of Christ, a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma fraternity for approximately 15 years, and served as a counselor at Ohio 4-H Conservation Camp at Camp Ohio.

Friends may call on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284, N. Miami St., West Milton. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Nashville United Church of Christ, 4540 West State Route 571, West Milton. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Ohio Building Fund or the Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship Fund at Ohio State in Doug’s memory.

Darrell Cosner

Darrell “Deb” Cosner, 58 of Ironton, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in Southern Ohio Medical Center, Portsmouth.

He was born April 9, 1953, son of the late James and Thelma Joseph Cosner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Rick Cosner.

He is survived by his wife Joy Cosner; three daughters whom he loved very much Katie, Nikki and Lisa; three grandsons, Ian, Blake and Harley; one brother, Steve (Terri) Rowe of Ironton; one sister, Kay (Roy) Long of Ironton, and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was of Baptist faith. He was a laborer out of Local 83 with more than 30 years of service.
